Does your job require you to make moral compromises? If so, please read these story that was narrated by the late RA Torrey in his book, Heaven or Hell.
Our text in Proverbs 29:25 promises, “Whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe. ” He will be safe from all danger of yielding to sin and temptation. If you trust God, temptation has no power over you. A man cannot yield to temptation without distrusting God. Every act of sin is an act of distrust of God. He who trusts God will do right even though the heavens fall.
I knew a businessman who lost nearly everything he owned and had to sell everything else in order to pay his debts. He paid all his debts, but it left him practically penniless. Then he was offered a job with a manufacturing firm. He came to me and said, “What should I do? This is an excellent company to work for. They said they will promote me quickly, but if I take this post, I must work on Sundays. What should I do?”
I said, “Well, you will have to decide for yourself, but if you can’t do it with a clear conscience, you can’t afford to do it.”
He said, “I can’t do it with a clear conscience.” He refused the position, although he did not know what he was to do to support himself and his wife and family of three children. A day or two later, he got a job at very low wages. A few weeks after that, he got a position at several hundred dollars per month. He went on to become the controller of one of the biggest mercantile establishments in the Northwest – all because he trusted God.
When I was home one summer, I found that a young Jewish woman had been converted while I was away. She was a very talented woman, but she had to work hard for her living to support the family. After she was converted, she was full of love for Christ. She went out to the place where she worked, a very large company, and she began talking about Christ to the other employees.
Some of them did not like it. They went to the head of the firm and said, “She is constantly talking to us about Christ. We don’t like it.”
The managers called her in and said, “We have no objection to Christianity, and no objection to your being a Christian. It is a good thing, but you must not talk about it at this company.”
“Very well,” she said. “I won’t work where I can’t take Christ with me and talk for my Master.”
“Well, then,” they said, “you will have to lose your job.”
“Very well,” she said, “I will give up my position before I will be disloyal to Jesus Christ.”
They said, “Go back to work, and we will tell you our decision later.” She went back to work.
At the end of the week, she got a letter from the firm. She said, “Here is my discharge,” and she tore it open. The letter read: “We have a position with great responsibility, with a much larger salary than you are getting. We think you are the woman for the position, and we offer it to you.” They saw she could be trusted. Businessmen are looking for men and women whom they can trust.
Whoever trusts in the Lord will be safe from danger of every kind. We read in Romans 8:31: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Men will persecute you. They will ridicule you. They will do all they can to harm you. Jesus said in John 15:20, “If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.” But it won’t do you any harm.
Some people are frightened at the thought of being persecuted. But it is one of the greatest privileges on earth for converts to be persecuted for Jesus Christ. Jesus said: Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matt. 5:11-12)
A time of great persecution may be coming on this earth, and the Lord Jesus Christ has already warned us that on His account, we would be ‘brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles’ (Matthew 10:18).
At the same time, the Lord Jesus Christ has instructed us to ‘not worry about what to say or how to say it’ (Matthew 10:19), and has assured us that ‘at that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you’. (Matthew 10:19)
Indeed, this has been the experience of Christians in China who have suffered imprisonment due to their faith, and while in prison have had their human personality systematically destroyed in a most devilish way.
The following wonderful account was given by the late Christian author Basilea Schlink in her book Ruled by the Spirit:
Dr. Leslie Milan, the founder of the Freedom Movement in Canada, describes his experiences during rigorous imprisonment in China where he had to undergo the torments of this brain-washing. “The Communists were able to wash out everything from my memory. No education was available any more, no kind of cultural background to form any resistance. Nothing of my own could resist any more. My body could not resist, for it broke down completely after several weeks. I was a physical wreck. There was nothing in me that could offer resistance. But when God’s Spirit wanted to bring something to mind, out of the subconscious, He could still do so. As soon as God’s Spirit recalled the Word of God to my memory, my tormentors no longer knew what to do. I can still hear how they challenged me and said, Mr. Milan, stand up and answer this question!” They asked me – and I don’t even know what it was they asked me. I could no longer even listen. Suddenly God’s Word began to flow in me and when they had finished their talk and allowed me to speak, all that I did was simply to ‘quote’ what was in me — God’s words. And these seven men of the political indoctrination course sensed for a moment something of the glory of God. It was a witness to them of how powerfully God’s Word works through the Spirit…”
An ISIS fighter, who had killed many Christians, reported having dreams of Jesus Christ, according to Gina Fadely, director of Youth With A Mission Frontier Missions.
“One of our YWAM workers in the Middle East was contacted by a friend earlier this year and they met up and he was introduced to an ISIS fighter who had killed many Christians already. I mean that’s a horrible situation, and admittedly, he was probably on guard,” said Fadely.
“He told this YWAM leader that he had begun having dreams of this man in white who came to him and said, ‘You are killing My people.’ And he started to feel really sick and uneasy about what he was doing.”
“The fighter said just before he killed one Christian, the man said, ‘I know you will kill me, but I give to you my Bible.’ The Christian was killed and this ISIS fighter actually took the Bible and began to read it. In another dream, Jesus asked him to follow Him and he was now asking to become a follower of Christ and to be discipled.”
Ruth Fatimah was born and raised in Singapore to a devout Indian Muslim family, and this is her real-life story (as told by her herself), of how she found faith in Him, of the subsequent persecution by her family, and of the miracles that God performed through her life (including the raising up of a dead child).
