David Wilkerson’s Last Sermon

Rev. David Wilkerson, founding pastor of Times Square Church in New York City and author of the well-known book The Cross and the Switchblade, passed away on 27 April 2011 as a result of a car accident. He was 79 at the time of his passing.

The last time that he preached at Times Square Church before his passing was on 4 April 2010, in a message entitled “Jesus – the Lamb of God”.

However, he appears to have given his last public sermon on 16 September 2010 at a World Challenge meeting (please watch the video below).

At that time, Bro Wilkerson appeared to be quite frail and needed a chair to support him midway through the sermon – something which was uncharacteristic of him previously.

It was also really touching to watch former gang leader Nicky Cruz (of the “Cross and the Switchblade” story) publicly pay tribute to Bro Wilkerson, and one perceives the Lord’s hand working behind the scenes, allowing the “Cross and the Switchblade” story to somewhat come full circle before this great saint went home to be with the Lord.
